Unterart Schwarm: Ein Schwarm ist eine Ansammlung von Minikreaturen, winzigen oder sehr kleinen Kreaturen, die als einzelnes Wesen handeln. Schwärme besitzen die Merkmale ihrer jeweiligen Art, sofern es an dieser Stelle nicht anders angegeben ist. Sie haben eine gemeinsame Anzahl an Trefferwürfeln, einen gemeinsamen Initiativemodifikator und eine gemeinsame Rüstungsklasse[link1]. Schwärme machen auch ihre Rettungswürfe[link2] als Einzelwesen. Ein einzelner Schwarm nimmt eine Fläche (wenn er aus nicht fliegenden Kreaturen besteht) oder einen Würfel (wenn er aus fliegenden Kreaturen besteht) mit 3 m Seitenlänge ein, hat aber wie die Wesen, aus denen er sich zusammensetzt, eine Reichweite von 0 m. Um anzugreifen, bewegt er sich in das Feld seines Gegners, was einen Gelegenheitsangriff[link3] provoziert. Er kann dieselbe Fläche einnehmen wie irgendeine Kreatur beliebiger Größe, da er sich komplett über seine Beute hinweg bewegt. Ein Schwarm kann sich ohne dadurch behindert zu werden durch alle von Feinden besetzten Felder bewegen (das gilt auch im umgekehrten Fall), allerdings provoziert der Schwarm mit dieser Handlung einen Gelegenheitsangriff[link3]. Ein Schwarm kann sich durch alle Risse und Löcher hinduchbewegen, die breit genug sind, damit die Kreaturen, aus denen er sich zusammensetzt, hindurch passen.

Ein Schwarm aus sehr kleinen Wesen ist aus 300 nicht fliegenden oder 1.000 fliegenden Kreaturen zusammengesetzt. Ein Schwarm aus winzigen Wesen besteht aus 1.500 nicht fliegenden oder aus 5.000 fliegenden Kreaturen, und ein Schwarm aus Miniwesen besteht aus 10.000 fliegenden oder nicht fliegenden Kreaturen. Schwärme, die aus nicht fliegenden Kreaturen bestehen, umfassen weit mehr Kreaturen, als normalerweise in ein 3 m2 großes Gebiet hineinpassen würden. Das kommt daher, dass die Kreaturen in einem Schwarm eng aneinandergedrückt sind und für gewöhnlich übereinander hinwegkrabbeln, wie sie es auch mit ihrer Beute tun, wenn sie sich bewegen oder angreifen. Größere Schwärme werden als Zusammenschluss mehrerer Einzelschwärme dargestellt. Das Gebiet, das von einem großen Schwarm bedeckt wird, kann eine beliebige Form haben, obwohl sich der Schwarm im Normalfall in zusammenhängenden Feldern aufhält.


Eigenschaften eines Schwarms: Schwärme besitzen keine unterscheidbare Vorder- oder Rückseite und haben keine erkennbare Anatomie, können daher also auch nicht in die Zange genommen oder kritisch getroffen werden. Schwärme, die aus sehr kleinen Kreaturen bestehen, erleiden durch Angriffe, die mit Hieb- oder Stichwaffen ausgeführt werden, nur den halben Schaden.

Schwärme, die aus winzigen oder Minikreaturen bestehen, sind gegen jede Art von Waffenschaden immun. Fallen die Trefferpunkte eines Schwarms auf 0 oder weniger, bricht er auseinander. Der bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt erlittene Schaden hat aber keinen Einfluss auf die Fähigkeit des Schwarms, anzugreifen oder Angriffen zu widerstehen. Schwärme können niemals den Zustand schwankend[link4] annehmen und auch nicht durch Schaden den Zustand sterbend[link5] erreichen. Auch können sie nicht zu-Fall gebracht werden. Man kann keinen Ansturm[link6] gegen sie ausführen, und man kann keinen Ringkampf[link7] gegen sie versuchen, wie sie auch keinen Gegner niederringen können.

Schwärme sind gegen jeden Zauber oder Effekt immun, der auf eine bestimmte Anzahl an Kreaturen zielt (das gilt auch für Zauber, die auf einzelne Ziele wirken wie Auflösung[link8]). Ausnahmen von dieser Regel sind geistesbeeinflussende Effekte (Bezauberungen[link9], Moraleffekte, Phantome[link10], Täuschungen[link11] und Zwänge[link12]), falls der Schwarm eine Kollektivintelligenz (und einen Intelligenzwert[link13]) besitzt. Schwärme erleiden durch Flächenzauber oder -Effekte, wie Waffen mit Flächenwirkung[link14] oder viele Hervorrufungszauber[link15] verursachen, 50% mehr Schaden als durch den Effekt normalerweise verursacht.

Schwärme, die aus winzigen oder Minikreaturen bestehen, sind sehr anfällig gegen starke Windböen wie zum Beispiel die, die durch den Zauber Windstoß[link16] erzeugt werden. Behandle einen Schwarm als Kreatur der selben Größe wie die Kreaturen, aus denen er zusammengesetzt ist, um die Auswirkung von Winden auf ihn zu bestimmen. Schwärme, die durch nichttödlichen Schaden[link17] bewusstlos[link18] werden, fallen auseinander und bilden sich erst wieder neu, wenn die Trefferpunkte des Schwarms den erlittenen nichttödlichen Schaden[link17] wieder übersteigen.


Schwarmangriff: Kreaturen, die der Unterart Schwarm angehören, führen keine normalen Nahkampfangriffe aus. Stattdessen verursachen sie bei allen Kreaturen, in deren Angriffsfläche sich sich am Ende ihrer Bewegung befinden, automatischen Schaden, ohne dazu einen Angriffswurf[link19] ausführen zu müssen. Schwarmangriffe haben keine Fehlschlagchance, wie sie im Normalfall durch Deckung[link20] oder Tarnung[link21] entsteht. Die spieltechnischen Werte enthalten unter Angriff bzw. Voller Angriff den Eintrag „Schwarm“, ohne dass dort ein Angriffsbonus[link19] angegeben wäre. Die Schadensmenge, die ein Schwarm verursacht, hängt von seinen Trefferwürfeln ab (siehe die folgende Tabelle).

Sofern in seiner Beschreibung nicht anders angegeben sind die Angriffe eines Schwarms nichtmagischer Natur. Schadensreduzierung[link22] in ausreichender Höhe, um den Angriffsschaden eines Schwarms auf 0 zu senken, Körperlosigkeit oder andere besondere Fähigkeiten reichen meistens aus, um einer Kreatur Immunität (oder wenigstens Resistenz) gegen den von einem Schwarm verursachten Schaden zu verleihen. Manche Schwärme besitzen allerdings zusätzlich zum normalen Schaden auch andere Schadensoptionen wie Säure, Blutentzug[link23], Gift[link24] oder andere besondere Angriffe.

Schwärme bedrohen andere Kreaturen nicht und können daher mit ihrem Schwarmangriff auch keinen Gelegenheitsangriff[link3] ausführen. Allerdings lenken sie, wie im Folgenden beschrieben, die Kreaturen ab, in deren Feld sie sich aufhalten.

Für Schwärme gilt die Allgemeine Monsterregel Ablenkung[link25]. Um in dem von einem Schwarm besetzten Gebiet einen Zauber zu wirken oder sich auf einen Zauber zu konzentrieren, muss man einen Zauberstufenwurf (SG 20 + Grad des Zaubers) bestehen. Fertigkeiten einzusetzen, die Geduld und Konzentration erfordern, bedarf eines Willenswurf[link2] SG 20.
