Gesinnung

Die allgemeine Moral und die persönliche Einstellung einer Kreatur werden durch ihre Gesinnung bestimmt: rechtschaffen gut, neutral gut, chaotisch gut, rechtschaffen neutral, neutral, chaotisch neutral, rechtschaffen böse, neutral böse oder chaotisch böse.

Die Gesinnung ist ein Hilfsmittel, um die Identität deines Charakters zu entwickeln. Es ist keine Zwangsjacke, die deinen Charakter behindern soll. Jede Gesinnung repräsentiert eine breite Spanne von Persönlichkeitstypen oder eigenen Philosophien, so dass zwei Charaktere der gleichen Gesinnung immer noch sehr verschieden voneinander sein können.

Alle Wesen haben eine Gesinnung. Die Gesinnung bestimmt die Wirksamkeit von bestimmten Zaubern und magischen Gegenständen[link1].

Tiere[link2] und andere Kreaturen, denen es nicht möglich ist, moralisch zu handeln, sind eher neutral als gut oder böse. Selbst tödliche Vipern und Menschen[link3] fressende Tiger sind neutral, weil sie nicht in der Lage sind, die moralischen Auswirkungen ihrer Handlungen zu erkennen. Hunde mögen zwar gehorsam sein und Katzen eigenwillig, aber sie sind moralisch nicht in der Lage wirklich rechtschaffen oder chaotisch zu sein.

Gut gegen Böse

Gute Charaktere und Kreaturen beschützen unschuldiges Leben. Böse Charaktere und Kreaturen verderben oder vernichten unschuldiges Leben, sei es aus Spaß oder Habgier.


Das „Gute“ umfasst Selbstlosigkeit, Respekt vor dem Leben und der Würde intelligenter Wesen. Gute Charaktere erbringen persönliche Opfer, um anderen zu helfen.


„Böse“ umfasst das Verletzen, Unterdrücken und Töten anderer. Einige böse Kreaturen haben einfach kein Mitgefühl mit Anderen und töten – sofern es zweckdienlich ist – ohne jeden Skrupel. Andere folgen aktiv dem Weg des Bösen und töten zum Vergnügen oder aus Treue zu einer bösen Gottheit oder ihrem Herren.


Personen, die in Hinsicht auf Gute und Böse neutral sind, haben zwar Bedenken Unschuldige zu töten, lassen aber auch die Bereitschaft vermissen, persönliche Opfer zu erbringen, wenn es darum geht andere zu beschützen oder ihnen zu helfen.


Ordnung (Rechtschaffenheit) gegen Chaos

Rechtschaffene Charaktere sprechen die Wahrheit, halten ihr Wort, respektieren die Obrigkeit, ehren die Tradition und urteilen über die, die ihre Pflichten nicht erfüllen. Chaotische Charaktere folgen ihrem Gewissen, mögen es nicht, gesagt zu bekommen, was sie tun sollen. Sie ziehen neue Ideen gegenüber alten Traditionen vor und halten gegebene Versprechen nur dann ein, wenn ihnen der Sinn danach steht.


„Ordnung“ oder auch Rechtschaffenheit umfasst Ehre, Vertrauenswürdigkeit, Gehorsam gegenüber der Obrigkeit und Verlässlichkeit. Andererseits kann Rechtschaffenheit auch Engstirnigkeit, starres Festhalten an Traditionen, Voreingenommenheit und ein Mangel an Anpassungsfähigkeit beinhalten. Befürworter der Rechtschaffenheit sagen, dass nur ein rechtschaffenes Verhalten eine Gesellschaft entstehen lässt, in der Personen sich auf einander verlassen und die richtigen Entscheidungen treffen können, voller Vertrauen darauf, dass andere so handeln werden, wie sie sollten.


„Chaos“ umfasst Freiheit, Anpassungsfähigkeit und Flexibilität. Andererseits kann Chaos auch Rücksichtslosigkeit, Widerwillen gegenüber der rechtmäßigen Obrigkeit, willkürliche Handlungen und Verantwortungslosigkeit beinhalten. Befürworter des Chaos stehen für die uneingeschränkte persönliche Freiheit, die es einem erlaubt, sich voll zu entfalten. Dadurch könnte die Gesellschaft vom Potential ihrer Individuen profitieren.


Jemand der sich gegenüber Ordnung und Chaos neutral verhält zeigt ein gewisses Maß an Respekt gegenüber der Obrigkeit, fühlt allerdings auch keinen Zwang zu dienen oder zu rebellieren. Man ist generell ehrlich, kann aber jederzeit zum Lügen oder Täuschen anderer verleitet werden.


Gesinnungsstufen

Gelegentlich sprechen Regeln von „Stufen“, wenn es um Gesinnungen geht. In diesem Falle bezeichnen „Stufen“ die Anzahl der Gesinnungsänderungen zwischen den zwei Gesinnungen, wie es im folgenden Diagramm gezeigt wird. Zu beachten ist, dass eine diagonale Stufe als zwei Stufen anzurechnen ist. Ein rechtschaffen neutraler Charakter ist eine Stufe entfernt von einer rechtschaffen guten Gesinnung und drei Stufen entfernt von einer chaotisch bösen Gesinnung. Die Gesinnung eines Klerikers[link4] muss innerhalb einer Stufe der Gesinnung seiner Gottheit liegen.

Die neun Gesinnungen

Neun unterschiedliche Gesinnungen definieren alle möglichen Kombinationen aus der Ordnung-Chaos-Achse mit der Gut-Böse-Achse. Jede Gesinnungsbeschreibung weiter unten stellt einen typischen Charakter dieser Gesinnung dar. Beachte, dass einzelne Personen von dieser Norm abweichen und jeder Charakter, Tag für Tag, mehr oder weniger stark im Rahmen seiner Gesinnung handelt. Verwendet diese Beschreibung als Leitfaden, nicht als Vorschrift.


Die ersten sechs Gesinnungen, rechtschaffen gut bis chaotisch neutral, sind die üblichen Gesinnungen für Spielercharaktere. Die drei bösen Gesinnungen sind normaler weise für Monster und Bösewichte gedacht. Mit Erlaubnis des Spielleiters kann ein Spieler seinem SC eine böse Gesinnung geben, aber solche Charaktere sind häufig Ausgangspunkt von Störungen und Konflikten mit den guten und neutralen Gruppenmitgliedern. Spielleiter werden ermutigt, auf die Auswirkungen eines bösen Charakters auf die Kampagne ein besonderes Augenmerk zu legen, bevor sie diese Gesinnung zulassen.

Rechtschaffen Gut: Ein rechtschaffen guter Charakter handelt so, wie es von einer guten Person erwartet wird oder wie es von ihm verlangt wird. In ihm verbindet sich das Bedürfnis, das Böse zu bekämpfen, mit der Disziplin, unermüdlich den Kampf fort zu führen. Er spricht die Wahrheit, hält sein Wort, hilft den Bedürftigen und spricht sich gegen Ungerechtigkeit aus. Ein rechtschaffen guter Charakter hasst es, Schuldige ungestraft davonkommen zu lassen.


Rechtschaffen gut vereint Ehre und Mitgefühl.

Neutral gut: Ein neutral guter Charakter tut das Beste, was eine gute Person tun kann. Er versucht ständig anderen zu helfen. Er arbeitet mit Königen und Magistraten zusammen, aber fühlt sich ihnen gegenüber nicht verpflichtet.


Neutral gut bedeutet Gutes und Gerechtes zu tun, ohne dabei eine Neigung für oder wider der Obrigkeit zu haben.

Chaotisch gut: Ein chaotisch guter Charakter handelt, wie sein Gewissen es ihm vorschreibt, ohne darauf Rücksicht zu nehmen, was andere von ihm erwarten. Er sucht seinen eigenen Weg, aber er ist freundlich und wohlwollend. Er glaubt an das Gute und Gerechte, sieht aber wenig Sinn in Gesetzen und Vorschriften. Er hasst es, wenn Leute andere einschüchtern und ihnen sagen, was sie zu tun haben. Er folgt seinem eigenen moralischen Kompass, der zwar aufs Gute ausgerichtet, durchaus aber von dem der Gesellschaft abweichen kann.


Chaotisch gut vereint ein gutes Herz mit einem freien Geist.

Rechtschaffen neutral:Ein rechtschaffen neutraler Charakter handelt, wie das Gesetz, die Tradition oder sein persönlicher Ehrenkodex es ihm vorschreibt. Ordnung und Organi sation sind für ihn vorrangig. Er könnte an eine persönliche Ordnung glauben und nach einem Kodex oder einer Richtlinie leben, oder er könnte an eine gemeinsame Ordnung für alle glauben und eine starke, organisierte Regierung befürworten.


Rechtschaffen neutral bedeutet, dass du verlässlich und ehrenhaft bist, ohne ein Fanatiker zu sein.

Neutral: Ein neutraler Charakter tut das, was er für eine gute Idee erachtet. Er fühlt sich zu keiner Seite besonders hingezogen, sei es in Bezug auf Gut und Böse bzw. auf Ordnung (Rechtschaffenheit) und Chaos, weshalb Neutral mitunter auch „Rein Neutral“ genannt wird. Die meisten neutralen Charaktere zeigen eher einen Mangel an Urteilsmaß oder Meinung, als dass sie sich für die Neutralität stark machen. Ein solcher Charakter hält das Gute für besser als das Böse – schließlich hat er lieber gute Nachbarn und Herrscher als böse. Dennoch wird er keine persönliche Verpflichtung darin sehen, das Gute in einer abstrakten und universellen Art hoch zu halten.


Einige neutrale Charaktere engagieren sich andererseits philosophisch für die Neutralität. Sie sehen gut, böse, rechtschaffen und chaotisch als Vorurteile und gefährliche Extreme. Sie plädieren für den mittleren Weg der Neutralität, der auf lange Sicht gesehen der beste und ausgewogenste Pfad ist.


Neutral bedeutet, dass du natürlich und ohne Vorurteile und Zwänge handelst.

Chaotisch neutral:Ein chaotisch neutraler Charakter folgt seinen Launen. Es ist in erster Linie ein Individualist. Er schätzt seine eigene Freiheit, setzt sich aber nicht für die Freiheit anderer ein. Er meidet die Obrigkeit, lehnt Einschränkungen ab und stellt Traditionen in Frage. Ein chaotisch neutraler Charakter arbeitet nicht vorsätzlich daran, Organisationen im Rahmen eines Feldzugs für die Anarchie zu stören. Um dies zu tun, müsste er entweder vom Guten (dem Verlangen andere zu befreien) oder Bösen (dem Verlangen, diejenigen leiden zu lassen, die anders sind als er selbst) angetrieben sein. Ein chaotisch neutraler Charakter mag zwar unberechenbar sein, aber sein Verhalten ist nicht völlig zufällig. Es ist wahrscheinlicher, dass er eine Brücke überquert, als dass er sich von einer solchen hinab stürzt.


Chaotisch neutral stellt die wahre Freiheit dar, sowohl von den Zwängen der Gesellschaft als auch vom Eifer der Weltverbesserer.

Rechtschaffen Böse: Ein rechtschaffen böser Bösewicht nimmt sich methodisch alles was er will und was ihm sein Verhaltenskodex erlaubt, ohne Rücksicht darauf, wen er dabei verletzt. Tradition, Loyalität und Ordnung sind für ihn wichtig. Freiheit, Würde oder Leben dagegen nicht. Er hält sich an die Regeln, aber ohne Gnade oder Mitgefühl. Er fühlt sich wohl in einer Hierarchie und strebt nach der Herrschaft, ist aber auch bereit zu dienen. Er verurteilt andere nicht anhand ihrer Taten, sondern anhand ihres Volkes, Glaubens, Heimatlands oder sozialen Ranges. Es ist ihm zuwider, das Gesetz oder sein Wort zu brechen.


Diese Abneigung entstammt teilweise seiner Natur und teilweise der Tatsache, dass er sich auf die Ordnung verlassen muss, um sich selbst vor jenen zu schützen, die ihm aus moralischen Gründen entgegen treten. Einige rechtschaffen böse Bösewichte haben bestimmte Tabus, wie zum Beispiel nicht kaltblütig zu töten (sie haben jedoch Untergebene, die dies ausführen) oder Kinder nicht zu Schaden kommen lassen (wenn es vermieden werden kann). Sie bilden sich ein, dass diese Skrupel sie von rücksichtslosen Verbrechern unterscheiden.


Einige rechtschaffen böse Leute und Kreaturen haben sich mit einem Fanatismus dem Bösen verschrieben, wie ein Kreuzritter sich dem Guten verschrieben hat. Sie sind nicht nur bereit, andere für die Erfüllung ihrer eigenen Ziele zu verletzen, sie haben auch Freude daran, das Böse zu verbreiten und sehen darin eines ihrer Ziele. Sie könnten es auch als Teil einer Verpflichtung gegenüber einer bösen Gottheit oder einem bösen Herrscher ansehen.


Rechtschaffen böse repräsentiert das organisierte Böse, welches mit Methode und Absicht vorgeht.

Neutral böse: Ein neutral böser Bösewicht tut alles, womit er irgendwie davonkommen kann. Einfach ausgedrückt: er achtet nur auf sich selbst. Er vergießt keine Tränen für die, die er aus Profitgier, zum Sport oder aus Bequemlichkeit umbringt. Der Ordnung ist er nicht zugetan und er hegt auch nicht die Vorstellung, dass das Befolgen von Gesetzen, Traditionen oder eines Verhaltenskodex ihn irgendwie besser oder edler macht. Andererseits hat er auch nicht die ruhelose Natur oder die Streitlust, die ein chaotisch böser Charakter hat.


Einige neutral böse Charaktere sehen das Böse als ein Ideal und begehen böse Akte nur um der Sache willen. Die Mehrheit dieser Charaktere verehren böse Götter oder gehören Geheimbünden an.


Neutral böse stellt das reine Böse ohne Ehre und ohne Abwechslung dar.

Chaotisch böse: Ein chaotisch böser Charakter tut das, wozu ihn seine Gier, sein Hass oder seine Zerstörungslust treiben. Er ist heißblütig, gemein, willkürlich gewalttätig und unberechenbar. Wenn es sein Ziel ist, einfach nur alles an sich zu reißen, was immer er auch kriegen kann, ist er rücksichtslos und brutal. Wenn er sich für die Ausbreitung des Bösen und des Chaos einsetzt, ist er sogar noch schlimmer. Glücklicherweise sind seine Pläne meist wahllos zusammengeschustert, und jegliche Gruppierung, der er beitritt oder die er gründet, ist schlecht organisiert. Üblicherweise können chaotisch böse Leute nur durch Gewalt dazu gebracht werden zusammen zu arbeiten, und ihr Anführer bleibt das nur so lange, wie er die Umsturz- und Mordversuche vereiteln kann.


Chaotisch böse stellt nicht nur die Zerstörung von aller Schönheit und allem Leben dar, sondern auch die Zerstörung der Ordnung, von der Schönheit und Leben abhängen.


Gesinnungswechsel

Die Gesinnung ist ein Werkzeug, ein praktischer Kurzbegriff, um die allgemeine Einstellung und das Verhalten eines NSC, einer Region, einer Religion, eines Monsters oder sogar eines magischen Gegenstandes zusammenzufassen.


Einige Charakterklassen in Kapitel Klassen[link5] führen Folgen für Angehörige dieser Klassen[link5] auf, die sich nicht an eine bestimmte Gesinnung halten. Ebenso haben einige Zauber und magische Gegenstände[link1] je nach Gesinnung der Ziele des Zaubers unterschiedliche Auswirkungen auf diese. Doch darüber hinaus muss man sich eigentlich keine großen Sorgen machen, ob sich jemand anders verhält, als es seine Gesinnung festlegt. Letztlich liegt es am Spielleiter zu entscheiden, ob eine Handlung mit einer angegebenen Gesinnung übereinstimmt. Die Grundlage für diese Entscheidung bilden die oben gegebenen Beschreibungen und die eigene Interpretation und Meinung des SL. Dabei sollte der SL allein danach streben, schlüssig die Grenzen zwischen Gesinnungen wie z.B. chaotisch neutral und chaotisch böse zu definieren. Es gibt keinen eindeutigen und schnellen Mechanismus für das Einschätzen der Gesinnung. Anders als bei Trefferpunkten oder Rüstungsklasse[link6] unterliegt das „Etikett“ Gesinnung völlig der Kontrolle des SL.


Daher ist es am besten, die Spieler ihre Charaktere so spielen zu lassen, wie sie wollen. Sollte ein Spieler seinen Charakter so darstellen, dass du als SL glaubst, dass es gar nicht zu seiner Gesinnung passt, dann teile ihm mit, dass er deiner Ansicht nach gegen seine Gesinnung verstößt, und warum. Doch tue dies auf freundliche Weise. Falls ein Charakter seine Gesinnung wechseln will, dann lasse das zu. In der Regel sollte das auf nicht mehr als eine (rollenspielerisch dargestellte) Änderung der Persönlichkeit hinauslaufen. – Und in einigen Fällen nicht einmal das, wenn die Anpassung der Gesinnung nur genauer wiedergeben soll, wie der Spieler seinen Charakter nach Meinung des SL darstellt. Manchmal allerdings kann sich eine Gesinnungsänderung auf die Fähigkeiten eines Charakters auswirken – siehe hierzu die Klassenbeschreibungen in Kapitel Klassen[link5] (ein Barbar[link7] darf z.B. nicht rechtschaffen sein und ein Kleriker[link4], der sich zu weit von der Gesinnung seiner Gottheit entfernt, verliert den Kontakt zu dieser). Der Zauber Buße[link8] könnte erforderlich sein, um Schäden wieder gutzumachen, welche durch einen unfreiwillige Gesinnungswechsel oder kurzfristiges Abweichen von der gespielten Persönlichkeit auftreten.


Spieler, die häufiger die Gesinnung ihrer Charaktere wechseln, sollten vielleicht eher chaotisch neutrale Charaktere spielen.
