Die Ebenen

Während die Spielwelt schon unzählige Abenteuer zu bieten hat, gibt es doch auch noch Welten jenseits dieser-andere Kontinente, andere Planeten und andere Galaxien. Und jenseits dieser existieren immer noch mehr Welten, ja es finden sich ganze Dimensionen, deren Realität vollkommen anders ist als die bekannte. Diese Reiche werden die Ebenen genannt. Es gibt zwar Verbindungen zwischen den Ebenen, die es erlauben, sie zu bereisen. Prinzipiell aber ist jede Ebene ein eigenes Universum mit seinen eigenen Naturgesetzen. All diese Dimensionen und Ebenen zusammen genommen bezeichnet man als das Große Jenseits.

Nur die Phantasie setzt der Anzahl aller Ebenen eine Grenze, doch alle kann man sie in eine von fünf Kategorien einteilen: die Materielle Ebene, die Transitiven Ebenen, die Inneren Ebenen, die Äußeren Ebenen und die unzähligen Halbebenen.

Die Materielle Ebene: Die Materielle Ebene ähnelt von allen noch am Ehesten der Erde und funktioniert nach denselben Naturgesetzen wie unsere reale Welt. Die „Größe“ der Materiellen Ebene hängt von deiner Kampagne ab – es könnte sich lediglich um eine einzige Welt handeln, auf der deine Kampagne spielt, oder sie könnte ein ganzes Universum sein, voll mit Planeten, Monden, Sternen und Galaxien. Die Materielle Ebene ist auch die, auf der Pathfinder standardmäßig angesiedelt ist.

Die Transitiven Ebenen: Die Transitiven Ebenen haben eine wichtige Gemeinsamkeit: sie „überschneiden“ sich mit den anderen Ebenen und können deshalb dazu genutzt werden, zwischen den Realitäten hin und her zu reisen. Außerdem sind sie die Ebenen, die noch die stärkste ständige Verbindung zur Materiellen Ebene besitzen und nicht selten mit verschiedenen Zaubern betreten werden. Die Transitiven Ebenen haben auch Bewohner. Im Folgenden nun einige Beispiele für diese Art von Ebenen.

Astralebene: Die Astralebene ist eine silbrige Leere, welche die Materielle Ebene und die Inneren Ebenen mit den Äußeren Ebenen verbindet. Sie ist das Medium, durch das die Seelen der Verstorbenen ins Jenseits reisen. Wer durch die Astralebene reist, der nimmt sie als riesige, weite Leere wahr, die hier und dort von kleinen Teilen der physischen Realität durchsetzt ist, die aus den Ebenen stammen, mit denen die Astralebenen sich überschneidet. Mächtige Zauberkundige nutzen die Astralebene für den Bruchteil einer Sekunde, wenn sie sich teleportieren, können sie aber auch verwenden, um zwischen den Ebenen hin- und herzureisen, wie etwa mit dem Zauber Astrale Projektion[link1].

Ätherebene: Die Ätherebene ist ein geisterhaftes Reich, das wie ein Puffer zwischen der Materiellen Ebene und der Schattenebene existiert und sich mit beiden überschneidet. Wer durch die Ätherebene reist, nimmt die reale Welt wie eine Art substanzlose Geisterwelt wahr und kann sich durch feste Gegenstände hindurch bewegen, ohne dass man ihn in der realen Welt sehen würde. Es leben gar seltsame Wesen auf der Ätherebene, Geister und Träume, von denen viele auf geheimnisvolle und schreckliche Weise Einfluss auf die reale Welt nehmen können. Mächtige Zauberkundige nutzen die Ätherebene, wenn sie Flimmern[link2], Ätherische Gestalten[link3] oder Ätherischer Ausflug[link4] wirken.

Schattenebene: Die unheimliche und tödliche Schattenebene ist der trostlose und farblose „Doppelgänger“ der Materiellen Ebene. Sie überschneidet sich mit der Materiellen Ebene, ist aber kleiner und in vielerlei Hinsicht eine verdrehte und falsche „Reflektion“ der Materiellen Ebene. Die Schattenebene ist mit negativer Energie aufgeladen (siehe „Innere Ebenen“) und dient seltsamen Monstern, wie etwa untoten Schatten[link5], als Heim. Mächtige Zauberkundige nutzen die Schattenebene, um große Entfernungen auf der Materiellen Ebene innerhalb kürzester Zeit zu überwinden, indem sie zum Beispiel Schattenreise[link6] wirken. Sie können aber auch auf die formbare Essenz der Schattenebene zugreifen, um quasi-reale Effekte und Kreaturen zu erzeigen, wie etwa mit den Zaubern Schattenhervorrufung[link7] oder Schatten[link8].

Innere Ebenen: Die Inneren Ebenen beinhalten die Bausteine der Realität. Am Besten stellt man es sich so vor, dass die Inneren Ebenen die Materielle Ebene „umfassen“, ohne sich mit ihr zu überschneiden, wie es die Transitiven Ebenen tun. Jede Innere Ebene besteht aus einer Art von Energie oder Element, die alle anderen überwältigt hat. Die Einwohner einer Inneren Ebene bestehen aus derselben Energie oder demselben Element wie die Ebene. Im Folgenden einige Beispiele.

Elementarebenen: Die vier klassischen Inneren Ebenen sind die Ebene der Luft, die Ebene der Erde, die Ebene des Feuers und die Ebene des Wassers – von ihnen kommen jene Kreaturen, die man Elementare nennt, doch diese sind nicht die einzigen, die dort leben. Noch viele andere seltsame Wesen bevölkern die Elementarebenen: Dschinni[link9], die seltsamen metallfressenden Xorn[link10], die Unsichtbaren Pirscher[link11] und die hinterhältigen Mephiten[link12].

Energieebenen: Es gibt zwei Energieebenen: die Ebene der Positiven Energie, der Ursprung allen Lebens, und die Ebene der Negativen Energie, der Ursprung des Untodes. Die Realität wird von den Energien beider Ebenen durchdrungen und die Gezeiten dieser Energien durchströmen alle Lebewesen und begleiten sie auf ihrer Reise von der Geburt bis zum Tod. Kleriker[link13] nutzen die Energien dieser Ebenen, wenn sie Energie fokussieren.

Die Äußeren Ebenen: Jenseits der Reiche der Sterblichen, jenseits der Bausteine der Realität liegen die Äußeren Ebenen. Ihre Ausdehnung übersteigt jegliche Vorstellungskraft. Sie sind die Reiche, in welche die Seelen der Toten reisen und in denen die Götter selbst leben. Jede Äußere Ebene hat eine Gesinnung[link14], die ihre moralische und ethische Beschaffenheit beschreibt. Die Bewohner der Ebenen verhalten sich jeweils in Einklang mit dieser Gesinnung[link14]. In den Äußeren Ebenen finden die Seelen der Verstorbenen ihre letzte Ruhe, sei es nun, dass sie sich der stillen Introspektion hingeben oder auf ewig verdammt sind. Und die Bewohner der Äußeren Ebenen sind der Stoff, aus dem die Mythen der Völker bestehen – es sind Engel[link15] und Dämonen[link16], Titanen[link17] und Teufel[link18] und unzählige andere Inkarnationen der unendlichen Möglichkeiten. Zu jeder Kampagnenwelt passen andere Äußere Ebenen, zu den klassischen jedoch gehören ein rechtschaffen guter Himmel, der chaotische und böse Abyss, die strenge rechtschaffen böse Hölle und das freie und heitere chaotisch gute Elysium. Mächtige Zauberkundige können die Äußeren Ebenen kontaktieren und um Rat und Hilfe bitten, indem sie Zauber wie Heiliges Gespräch[link19] und Kontakt zu anderen Ebenen[link20] wirken, oder sie können Verbündete herbeirufen, indem sie Verbündeter aus den Ebenen[link21] oder Monster herbeizaubern[link22] wirken.

Halbebenen: In diese Kategorie fallen alle außerdimensionalen Räume, die wie Ebenen funktionieren, aber über eine messbare Ausdehnung und einen begrenzten Zugang verfügen. Die anderen Arten von Ebenen sind theoretisch unendlich groß, während eine Halbebene gerade mal einen Durchmesser von ein paar Hundert Metern haben kann. Es gibt unzählige Halbebenen und während die meisten mit der Astral- oder der Ätherebene verbunden sind, sind manche völlig von den Transitiven Ebenen abgeschnitten und können nur mit Hilfe gut versteckter Portale oder obskurer Zauber betreten werden.
